Colenbrander Cup 2007
.
.

"Under threatening skies with a wind of 10km or less the 2007 Colenbrander Cup was sailed at Humber Bay.  With a registration of 8 boats a fun time was had by all. With small wind shifts and plenty of no wind holes along with Ashleys difficult course, strategy and good luck played a big part. Congratulations to Dave Allsebrook, Keith Rogers and Ashley Marshall for their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishes. The rest of the order was Bill Shorney, Charlie Mann--tied for 4th, Rayel Williams -- this is a new model sailor and his first regatta -- great job, Neil Williams and Peter Mirriam.  Thanks to all who participated and thanks to Ben for bringing this great sailboat class to our club.

It is my understanding that Ben actually started the Soling class at our club by having one of the first boats. I hope this is correct and that is why I wanted to thank him for getting this class started."

Even if you have never built a model boat before ...
Even if you have never sailed a model boat before ...
Even if you have never displayed a model boat before ...

Powered by the wind, with sails trimmed and rudder set by remote control, yachts of  various classes race an Olympic course with all the excitement of a full size boat.  So, if you're an "old Salt" who enjoys racing or if your out for an afternoon's sail, then this is for you.

  R/C Racing is fun !
For Sailors interested in racing you will find, that there are several international RC sailboat classes. The races follow the same ideas as for full-sized boats. The courses are varying from the standard Olympic triangle course to the most recent types.
.

One race typically lasts 10-15 minutes. One day of RC-racing commonly includes 8-12 starts ! RC-racing is a good way of training rules and learning tactics !
There are races on many levels, from small training races at the various clubs to the World Championships (arranged bi-annually).

 How it works
R/C stands for Remote Control. The boats are equipped with a radio receiver controlling the rudder servo and the sail winch. The sailor stands on the shore and using the radio transmitter the boats are controlled. Only by the wind drives the boat - engines are not allowed.

 The boats
Some of the RC-sailboats are constructed of hi-tech materials such as Kevlar and carbon fiber. The advanced boat constructor and do-it-yourself model builder will enjoy building his/her own boat from scratch or using various kits or parts available on the market.
